At the beginning of February 2022, our organization joined the volunteer movement and began a large-scale support of Ukraine’s defenders and victims of russian aggression.
In early February, the Association of Relatives of Political Prisoners of the Kremlin, in cooperation with Ukrzaliznytsia, launched “Przemyśl” logistic center, which was engaged in transportation of humanitarian cargo to Ukraine. Thanks to regular railway routs from the Polish city of Przemyśl to several Ukrainian cities, up to 15 tons of humanitarian aid from European donors were delivered every day.
The Association supported the defenders of Kyiv, Izium, Enerhodar, Kryvyi Rih and Cherkasy. Among those we supported, former political prisoners of the Kremlin who are now serving: Roman Ternovskyi, Yevhen Panov, Volodymyr Balukh and others.
The Association has provided financial assistance to 26 people, including families of political prisoners, civilian hostages, and former prisoners from the occupied Chernihiv, Kyiv, and Kherson regions.
On November 19, 2022, the Law “On social and legal protection of people found to have been deprived of their personal liberty as a result of military aggression against Ukraine, and members of their families” came into force. The Law offers a list of state services – wider than ever before – to help families of civilian hostages and prisoners fight for the release of their loved ones, and to make it easier for the victims to survive this dramatic experience. The Association has been advocating for it for several years together with other human rights organizations. Now, after the law has entered into force, we are doing everything to make it fully operational as soon as possible.
The Association joined in documenting the war crimes committed by the russians. We focused on gathering information about such crimes in Zaporizhzhia region.
