Ernes Ametov was born on May 30, 1985 in Tashkent, Uzbekystan. In 1992, the Ametov family returned to Crimea, to the city of Bakhchysarai.
Ernes graduated from school and entered the Crimean Taurida National University, received a law degree.
In 2009, he got married, has two sons.
His great passion was filming, he made commercials. He was also interested in Crimean Tatar decorative and applied arts, was minting and making copper dzhezve (coffee pots).
He was arrested by russian security forces on October 11, 2017, along with five other Crimean Tatars in the city of Bakhchysarai. Ametov and the other detainees were accused of participating in the local center of Hizb ut-Tahrir. According to decision of the RF Supreme Court in 2003, the organization is considered "terrorist" in Russia. Hizb ut-Tahrir's activity is not forbidden in Ukraine.
On September 16, 2020, a Rostov court acquitted and released one of the defendants in the so-called Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Ernest Ametov. The remaining seven defendants received sentences from 13 to 19 years in a strict regime colony.
On March 14, 2022, the Military Court of Appeal in Vlasykha overturned Ernes Ametov's acquittal. On December 29, 2022, Ametov was sentenced to 11 years in a strict regime colony and restriction of liberty for 1 year.
