Akim Bekirov was born on October 18, 1988 in Ferhana, Uzbek SSR. In 1992, he moved with his family to Crimea. He graduated from the Simferopol Vocational School of Civil Engineering and Computer Technologies with a specialty “computer science”. Then he studied at the Vernadsky Taurida National University, faculty of mathematics. He worked at a construction site, helped his friends and activists of the “Crimean Solidarity” with IT issues.
Married, has 2 children.
Akim was detained on suspicion of involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami political party, which is forbidden in Russia and Crimea but freely operates in Ukraine and in many European countries.
On March 18, 2022, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don issued a decision in the case of five Crimean Tatars who were accused of participating in a terrorist organization and preparing a violent seizure of power. Akim was sentenced to 14 years in a strict regime colony, with 5 years in prison, and restriction of liberty for 1 year after release from the colony.
