Remzi Bekirov was born on February 20, 1985, in the city of Bekabad, Uzbekystan. At the age of seven, he returned to Crimea with his parents. In 2002, he entered the Faculty of History of the Taurida National University. He took part in many competitions and olympiads in history and won prizes. He completed a tour guide course and guitar course. Remzi never worked in his specialty: the teacher's salary was poor, and after the temporary occupation of Crimea by Russia, teaching "old" history became completely impossible. Instead, he worked as a construction worker. In 2011, he married Khalide. They have three children.
In 2015, Remzi became a resident journalist. He filmed all the high-profile cases on the peninsula: Vedzhiie Kashka’s case, the raid in Kamianka, raids in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.
And he is the author of the idea about collective assistance to the families of Crimean political prisoners. After his call, people gathered to help the family of Teimur Abdullaiev: he was imprisoned, and his wife and five children remained in one room, where they cooked, ate, slept, and did their homework. The rest of the premises were built by a group of concerned Crimean Tatars from all over Crimea. Ramzi himself lived in much worse conditions. But it was important for him not to leave his friend in misery.
On March 28, 2019, Remzi Bekirov was arrested. He is accused of "terrorism" in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case.
On March 10, 2022, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Remzi Bekirov to 19 years with the first 5 years in prison, the rest of the sentence in a strict regime penal colony with restriction of liberty for 18 months. The russian occupation authorities accused the journalist of "organizing the activities of a terrorist organization" and "preparing a violent seizure of power".
